Arndt Verlag and Das Haus Der Deutschen Kunst
All material in this blog is presented for the purpose of scholarly research only. One inspiration in my exploration of great art of the 20th century has been Arndt Verlag's Das Haus Der Deutschen Kunst 3-volume series of coffee table books. These hardcovers on The House of German Art are indispensable, and filled with beautiful full-page color reproductions. The text is in German, and consists of lengthy essays by Friedrich Burgdorfer. I do not read or write German, but I can type quickly and use Google translate. I will do my best to make these essays accessible to the English speaking audience. Please however purchase these books if at all possible, as the more money the publisher makes, the more likely they are to put out related material. Anyone who actually knows German and can do a better job fixing up some of the phrases, please do so, I would certainly appreciate it! I think the meaning comes through well enough.
You can purchase the books here:
Lesen & Schenken Book Set
Here are the links to purchase the book via a US company: (I couldn't find any non-Amazon owned website. Abebooks, Book Depository and ZVAB are all owned by Amazon)
Book 1
Book 2
Book 3
Each book is a treasure. The first one has farming, working and landscapes; the second book has female nudes and Reich portraits; the third is all military art.
These are extremely important books to own. Future blog posts will contain some pictures, favorites, and the translations I've been typing out. It is slow work but enjoyable.
